Location

Most Midlands Anime Club events are split into two parts. In the morning, members meet up in Birmingham city centre to go shopping and have some food, and in the afternoon we move on to the main venue to socialise and watch anime. At the moment this main venue is in the Birmingham University Guild of Students, but as the club expands it is possible that we might move this to some other location.

Members that are planning to go to the morning events meet up in New Street Station between 10:00 and 11:00 am. This is conveniently situated in the city centre, and there are many signs pointing the way there. Within the train station, we meet between Millie's Cookies and the Whistlestop off-licence, just at the bottom of a set of escallators. This is in the main station foyer, outside the ticket barrier. The first few people to arrive tend to congregate around the pillar in the photos below.





If you find yourself in a station foyer with no shops, you have taken the wrong exit, and should head around to the station's main entrance.

The main events take place in the Birmingham University Guild of Students in the afternoon. The people who have been shopping in the morning return to New Street Station at 1:00pm, so if you want to be shown the way to the venue you can meet up with us then and we will take you there. Alternatively, you can make your own way to the University and meet us there. The Guild of Students is location 38 on this map of the campus.


The University of Birmingham is conveniently placed for transport links, as it is well served by both trains and busses. There is a direct train from New Street to the University station every 10 to 20 minutes on Saturdays, heading in the direction of Longbridge or Redditch. It takes about 10 minutes, and costs around £1.40 return.

From University station, it is around 5 to 10 minutes walk to the Guild of Students. Once you get to the exit of the train station, turn left along the road, heading for the large clocktower.

At the end of the road, carry on through the carpark and under the bridge, still heading towards the clocktower.



Go straight on past the clocktower, and past the next row of buildings. Head across a bridge over the road, and the Guild of Students is right in front of you.

It is also easy to get to the University by bus - you can catch services numbers 61, 62 and 63 from Corporation Street in the City Centre to the South Gate of the University. You can also catch service number 21 from Colmore Row to a bus stop near the train station, but this is less convenient.

If you take the 61, 62 or 63, the service approaches the University along the A38 Bristol Road. You should get off near the fire station, which is opposite the Gunbarrels pub and very close to the University's South Gate. From there, continue to walk along the road for a minute or so until you see the University's South Gate on the opposite side.



Cross the road, and take the path to the right of the road after passing through the gate. When you see some steps, take the right hand set.



After you reach the top of the stairs, follow the path around to the right. You should soon see the Guild in front of you.

The University has plenty of car parks, but most of these are restricted to staff and students only. Fortunately, there are plenty of other car parking facilities in the area; the most convenient is probably the Aldi car park, which is about 5 minutes walk from the main gate along the A38. The following directions are taken from the University website.

Approaching from the NW or SE along the M6, leave at Junction 6 (signposted Birmingham Central) to join the A38 (M). At the end of the motorway keep to the right, go over a flyover, then through three underpasses to join the A38 Bristol Road. The University is on your right two and a half miles from the City centre.

Approaching from the M42 North, leave at Junction 8 to join the M6 northbound and follow the instructions above.

Approaching from the SW, leave the M5 at Junction 4 (signposted Birmingham SW) to join the A38. The University is on the left of the A38 Bristol Road approximately eight miles from the motorway.

Our events are be split over two rooms on the first floor of the Guild of Students - Cafe Connections and the Guild Council Chamber. The Council Chamber is used as an anime screening room, using a projector and large screen to show the anime on our schedule, while the Cafe has trailers and anime music videos playing in the background while people socialise.

Cafe Connections is marked on the map below as location 1, next to the Beorma Bar (there's actually a connecting door direct to the bar, so you can buy drinks and bring them through), and the Council Chamber is location 6. The staff at the Guild will be happy to direct you to both of these rooms if you are unable to find them - or, if all else fails, just wander around the first floor until you see a big room full of anime fans.
